AVLONA from the Diafani A to Z list of the website WELCOME TO DIAFANI (www.diafani.com) Avlona, the small agricultural hamlet of this community, is situated in a valley which lies between the villages of Diafani and Olymbos. You will see many traditional stone houses and a small chapel, and there is now a taverna and some rooms to rent. Most of the local people have some land here where they grow grapes, vegetables and cereals for their family. Few families live here now, but, throughout the seasons you will see local people working in the fields or tending their animals. On the 1st of May many local people spend the day here feasting and making flower garlands for their houses, boats or cars. Avlona is also the stopping place for people walking to the spectacular historical site of Vroukounda , especially for the wonderful festival held there every year for Saint John (29th of August). On the evening of this main festival of Vroukounda many of the local people will stop again in Avlona to continue their celebrations and dancing, sometimes for one or two days more. Avlona is also a popular stopping place for walkers coming down from Olymbos and returning to Diafani by the path to the beautiful bay of Vananda.
